Europeean Sleep & CIrcadian Rhythm in ICU Study group
Sleep alterations in ICU is a prominent health issue that compromises outcome of critically Ill patients. At the moment, despite strong intuition and numerous indirect arguments, a causal relationship between sleep alterations and clinical outcome has not been demonstrated.
This matter of fact is due to several reasons:
Recording sleep is challenging and technically difficult in ICU
Sleep studies include small number of patients in heterogeneous population (surgical ICU, sedated-non-sedated patients…)
Analyzing and quantifying sleep in ICU is specific and conventional rules are not applicable
Then, progress will rise from large cohort of patients analyzed with common tools recorded in specialized centers and experienced teams.
who have experience in sleep recordings in medical or surgical Intensive Care Units and are running sleep recordings in ICU or who develop (or want to) a research program on this topic and who accept to share experience.
Annual or bi-annual workshop/meal at the occasion of European or US congresses (ESICM, ESRS, ERS or APSS, ATS or SCCM...) (day before/during/day after) to
Multi centers projects, starting with retrospective studies and technological (scorings, new parameters…)

Bring sleep alterations issues at the ears of public authorities
Identify health consequences of sleep alterations in ICU on morbidity/mortality
Funding doctoral/post doctoral position
Promote physiological studies
Push industrials to develop miniaturized sleep recorders and sleep monitoring devices
Push industrials to develop specific techniques/drugs devoted to improve sleep in ICU
To apply for European Grants from ECC or Sleep Society Grants
To Diffuse knowledge and advanced technologies (sleep scoring,….)
